The part-time MBA continues to grow in popularity.
Advantages of a part-time MBA:
- The class schedule of part-time MBA programs allows students to continue to work full-time. This reduces the risk of a failed job search at the end of an MBA program. Also, students do not have to give up two years of income as they would during a full-time MBA program.
- Some employers will fund a part-time MBA and/or allow flexibility in work schedules to accomodate course work.
- Students continuing to work full-time have the opportunity to apply class lessons immediately in the workplace.
Disadvantages on a part-time MBA:
- It can be difficult to juggle the demands of a full-time job and a part-time MBA program.
- Part-time MBA students may not feel as connected to an MBA program as full-time students. For instance, since many part-time MBA students are also working full-time they have fewer opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities.
- The opportunities for networking with other students, faculty, and alumni may be less for part-time students than full-time students.
