MBA Job Interview Tips

Here are some helpful tips to help you conquer any MBA job interview:

  • An interviewer is looking for 3 things in a job candidate:
    • Can this person do the job? Do they have the skills, education, and work experience to do this job. Or, can they be trained to do this job?
    • Will the person be able to perform the job in the way the company desires?
    • Is this person a fit with our organization? Is the candidate a fit with the corporate culture?
  • Physical Skills Tips:
    • Look the interviewer in the eye.
    • Sit up straight in your chair. Don't slouch. Don't lean on the back of the chair.

    • Have a firm handshake.
    • Energize your conversation by being animated and used hand gestures.
  • Verbal Skills Tips:
    • If the interviewer were to say "Tell me about yourself", plan how you would respond. This is a great opportunity for you to highlight your background and skills, but many people squander this opportunity by rambling. In only a few minutes, be able to give an overview of your background and how it fits with the position. You also might mention very significant accomplishments from your background.
    • Come up with 15 to 20 stories that demonstrate how you are qualified for the job. Some examples: a story about successfully implementing a project, leading a team, or dealing with adversity. Be sure and include specific examples of the actions you took and the results you received.
