Written in the middle of the third century B.C. by Theocritus, this is the earliest recorded bank advertisement:

To citizens and foreigners this bank gives equal dealing;
Deposit and withdraw, when your account is correctly made up
Let another make excuse: but Caicus even at night
Pays foreign money to those who want it.
