My lovely consultant recommended that I take a few business courses through UCLA to up the ante with my background for getting into grad school. So I am 3 weeks into my accounting 101 class. And let me tell you - I'm LOVING it!!! I'm so glad that I had initially wanted to specialize in accounting with possibly getting my CPA licensure. Now I know for a fact that that is what I want to do.
My job right now is the controller/CFO of the company I work for but I don't have to get into the nitty gritty of the accounting portion of my job because hey, that's why we have an accountant!! So this has been great learning the "other side" of things. I come home exhausted from work each day (mentally) but I find myself sitting here at my desk working out balance sheets and general ledgers for hours and not realizing that time is slipping by. That is how engrossed I am in this!! I love it.
I have found my true calling and I'm happy I realized that now and not a year into my program! Now I know specifically what types of schools to look into!! I think I have just confirmed what my husband has been saying all along, yes, I am a nerd! And proud of it!

Wow - someone is actually reading this blog? Amazing!! :)
I'm not sure why I'm going to apply to yet. I need to seriously think about it. I've been so caught up with everything else (crap hitting the fan at work, etc.) that I haven't had time to devote to it. I still need to take (finish) a prep GMAT class and stuff like that.
I'm interested in University of Oregon, University of Michigan, University of Texas, and Duke so far. I'm really having a hard time figuring all this out! I know what I want to do - now how do I find a school that will provide this?
Any suggestions?
Accounting
That's great that you have discovered a passion for accounting! I really enjoyed my accounting classes as well. As a fellow nerd, I think something about accounting appeals to the analytical side of my personality. I loved building financial statements, working cost accounting problems, etc.
However, while I have worked for companies of different sizes (Fortune 100 to startups), I have yet to find an accounting position in the "real world" that appeals to me. I have found finance to be a much better fit for the analytical side of my personality, plus I get to use my accounting knowledge on occasion as well.

I heard Duke was a great school, but my personal favorite on your list is U of Oregon. I'm a big trees type of person. :o)
